Summary

Janet Powell served in the Australian federal parliament as a Senator for Victoria (1986-1993) and was leader of the Australian Democrats party between 1 July 1990 and 19 August 1991. She resigned from the Australian Democrats in 1992, continuing in the Senate as an independent until being defeated in the 1993 election. In 2004, Powell joined the Australian Greens.
