Summary

Don Chipp served as a federal member of Parliament for the Liberal Party of Australia between 1960 and 1977. On 24 March 1977, Chipp resigned from the Liberal Party. Later the same year, he became the inaugral leader of the Australian Democrats party, and was elected to the Australian Senate at the December 1977 election. Chipp's term in the Senate began 1 July 1978 and lasted until his resignation on 18 August 1986.
