Summary

The Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission was established in 1973. It effectively replaced the functions of Commonwealth Conciliation & Arbitration Commission.

Details

In 1988, the federal Government introduced a legislative reform package, the centrepiece of which was the repeal of the Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1904 and its replacement by the Industrial Relations Act 1988. Among the changes introduced by the new act was the establishment of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission in place of the Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission.
